About

Have you ever felt like you’re doing everything you can… and it’s still not working?

Have you ever struggled to change your child’s behavior? Maybe you’ve sat in an IEP meeting feeling overwhelmed or unsure of what to say, or felt alone while trying to support a child who is struggling—with behavior, learning, or both. I have too.

Hi, I’m Brette.

I created Brette K | The Edvocator to give parents practical support they can actually use in everyday life, because I’ve been in your shoes.

My kids weren’t always easy.

Some things came naturally. Other things were… trickier.

At the time, I didn’t have easy access to strategies that actually worked. I relied on friends and family, did a lot of trial and error, and made plenty of mistakes along the way.

Then I became an educator.

Although I had worked with children for much of my life, I entered education later in my career. I’ve now spent more than two decades supporting and teaching children as a classroom teacher, special education teacher, dyslexia interventionist, and literacy facilitator and coach.

Through those experiences, I came to understand something deeply: parents care, children want to succeed, but many families simply need practical tools and clear guidance.

I’ve sat on both sides of the table.

I’ve been the parent in meetings, hearing how hard my child was struggling with choices, boundaries, and school expectations. I’ve also been the educator in those same meetings, working to support children both at school and at home.

I’ve sat through IEP meetings as both a parent, feeling confused by the process, and later as a special education teacher, helping families understand their options. That perspective matters.

Why this work matters to me

As an educator with a master’s degree, I’m deeply passionate about helping children learn. But I also know this: even educators can struggle with best practices. So it’s no surprise that parents sometimes feel overwhelmed, too.

What I want for you

My goal is to combine my experience as both a parent and an educator to create tools that actually work in real life. I want you to feel more confident, more informed, and better equipped to support your child.

What The Edvocator stands for

The Edvocator reflects my commitment to both educating families and advocating for children—because when we put children’s learning first, children win.
